This has been the wettest summer that we have experienced since moving here in 2006. The garden is very lush though on account of all the rain, but my beautiful hydrangeas have faded and my roses have hardly bloomed because of so little sun.
So, I am posting pictures taken in past Spring/Summers at our home here in Pinehurst, NC.

Gwennie's English Trifle Recipe
Lady fingers (about 20)
4 oz sherry
8 oz heavy Cream
2 tablespoons fine sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
16 oz English custard (or vanilla pudding made with whole milk)
1 4oz package strawberry or raspberry Jello
16 oz can mixed fruit salad
Fresh strawberries or raspberries.
Line trifle bowl with lady fingers dipped in sherry. Make Jello and let cool. Pour cooled Jello over lady fingers. Add strained fruit cocktail. Make custard and let cool, then spoon over trifle. Beat cream adding sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Spoon over top of trifle. Garnish with fresh strawberries or raspberries.
